The aluminum melt refining and degassing machine is a critical piece of equipment in the melting and casting process of aluminum and aluminum alloys. It is primarily used to remove hydrogen, oxide inclusions, and other harmful gases from the molten aluminum, thereby enhancing the purity of the aluminum melt and improving the mechanical properties of castings while reducing defects such as porosity and looseness. The following is an introduction to its main functions:
Hydrogen removal (degassing):
- Function: During the melting process, molten aluminum readily absorbs hydrogen gas (H), leading to defects such as porosity and pinholes in castings.
- Principle: Inert gases (such as nitrogen or hydrogen) or mixed gases (nitrogen + hydrogen) are injected into the molten aluminum, forming tiny bubbles. Utilizing the partial pressure difference between the bubbles and the molten aluminum, hydrogen diffuses into the bubbles and is carried out of the melt.
Remove oxide inclusions:
- Function: The surface of molten aluminum is prone to oxidation, forming inclusions such as Al₂O₃, which can affect the strength and density of castings.
- Principle: Gas is sheared by rotating nozzles or rotors to generate fine bubbles, which adsorb and rise to the surface, thereby removing suspended oxide particles.
Homogenization of ingredients:
- Function: Prevent segregation of alloying elements (such as Si, Mg, Cu, etc.) and ensure uniform composition of the aluminum melt.
- Principle: Aluminum liquid is thoroughly mixed through gas stirring or mechanical stirring to prevent local compositional inhomogeneity.
Reduce slag content:
- Function: Reduce slag (such as MgO, SiO₂, etc.) in the molten aluminum and improve the surface quality of castings.
- Principle: During the ascent of bubbles, they carry slag to the surface of the molten aluminum, making it easier to skim and remove the slag.
